I’ve collected some of my frequently asked questions and put them in one convenient place for you! Investing in a professional family photo session can be a little intimidating if you’ve never done something like it before. Let me put your mind at ease!
Q: May we bring props to our session?
A: Props can add interest and personality to your photos. If you would like to include props, please let me know ahead of time so I can plan accordingly.
Q: How long do sessions last?
A: Session time varies depending on the package you select. Half sessions are approx. 15-20 minutes while regular sessions average about 45 minutes.
Q: Will you suggest a location for the session?
A: I’d loved to share some of my favorite places! Don’t feel like you are limited to my suggestions. Also, please keep in mind that when kids are involved, it’s best to stick to one setting, such as a park or playground. Pick a place where they are comfortable being themselves.
Q: How can we best prepare for the session?
A: Get yourself and your family excited about the session. Whether you go all out on a styled shoot or purchase new outfits for everyone. It’s great when you can involve the entire family. I will also send you a series of emails to help you prepare. I’ve had some moms tell me they read the emails out loud to their family members on their way to the session.
Q: When is payment due?
A: 50% of the total cost is due at booking as your retainer to reserve your date and the remaining balance is due the day before the photography session.
Q: Is there a time that is better than others for outdoor photo sessions?
A: The best time for an outdoor photo session is either early in the morning or right around sunset. I’ve found that the best light for the beach is 20-40 minutes before sunset (depending on the package you chose). Prior to booking, if you want to get an idea when your session might be you can visit timeanddate.com to get an accurate time for sunset on your scheduled photo session day and then back up approx. 1 hour to 1.5 hours from that time for your start time – depending on the location. You want to make sure to factor in extra time just in case you happen to be running late, want to change outfits during the session, etc…
An issue that frequently comes up in the summertime is that sunset beach sessions are hard to do with the littles, since we start around 7:45 pm. Check out my blog post here for more information.
Q: What is included in a session?
A: All sessions include travel to the location, my services during the shoot and basic editing of the images. A set range of images are provided upon completion based on the duration of session. For example, with a full session you will usually receive a minimum 40 images. Hi resolution images with reprint permission are included in your gallery.
Q: What type of payment do you accept?
A: I accept checks, paypal, cash and all major credit cards. Just now that your proposal is not complete until your retainer has been paid. It’s easiest to just pay with a card or bank transfer through your proposal.
Q: How long after the session until I see my photos?
A: Turnaround for photos is approx. 1-2 weeks (can be up to 3 during busy season).
Got another question? Drop it in the comments and I’ll add it to the list!
